R4 Fairs Bring Green Information to Keys Communities
During November, GLEE will host the 3rd Annual R4 Fairs in communities throughout the Keys. With a focus on the R4 values of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rot (i.e. compost), R4 Fairs educate residents on sustainable living, provide information about green products and services, and offer a forum for community networking.
The Fairs, planned for Key Largo, Marathon, Big Pine Key and Key West, are scheduled at the following places and times:
• Big Pine Key R4 Fair, 9 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Nov. 7, Big Pine Academy, 30220 Overseas Highway, MM30
• Key West R4 Fair, noon- 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, Key West High School, 2100 Flagler Ave.
• Upper Keys R4 Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15 at Key Largo Community Park, turn off U.S. 1 at MM 99.6, Oceanside.
• Marathon R4 Fair, 9 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Nov. 21, Crane Point Hammock, MM 50.5 Bayside
Through the R4 Fairs, GLEE volunteers are working to build networks within their own communities, creating local GLEE chapters to include businesses and local government in setting sustainable goals specific to their communities.
Exhibit space at each fair is available to businesses, non-profits and others who would like to promote environmental programs, sell green products or services. Fees begin at $25 for one venue, to a discounted $70 for space at all four fairs.
R4 Fair Sponsorships start at $250, include tables, promotion and other benefits.
Next year, in November 2010, the R4 Fairs will take place in conjunction with EcoWeek 2010. The events are planned in lieu of the Annual Green Living Expo, which has served as GLEE’s signature event since 2004.
“The decision to postpone Expo in 2010 was based on many factors, including the opportunity to expand the R4 Fairs and help plan EcoWeek 2010,” said GLEE President Alison Higgins. “We are acting locally with the R4 Fairs and thinking globally with the reach of EcoWeek.”
