Inspiring A Green Economy through Keys-wide Education
Key Largo - Green Futures Expo, 4-7 pm Monday, Nov. 1, Murray Nelson Govt. & Cultural & Cultural Center, MM102
Spend an evening at Key Largo's Green Futures Expo where you can enjoy food by the Conch House and a beautiful venue with a sunset celebration. More than 50 exhibitors will show you how to save money and energy. KLI will have many new items from recycled materials, water and electric saving products and more. Find real solutions for real people and many attractions for the kids too. The Wild Bird Sanctuary will bring a screech owl, and the Upper Keys Sailing Club is offering free sailing lessons and a tour of the club. Workshops on "Rainwater Harvesting" and "10 Ways to Reduce Your Energy Bill" will be presented. Exhibitors of solar products, electric vehicles and hybrids can answer questions, while the kids play with solar model cars. Attendees can sign up with Keys Sanitary for new recycle bins and learn about new recyclables. Visit the Healthy Living exhibits to explore the body, mind and spirit connection. Marathon - Green Business Expo, Noon-5 pm Saturday, Nov. 6, Crane Point Nature Center, MM 50.5 Bayside
Marathon is hosting a Green Business Expo in a new venue, where free workshops will also be presented. Learn about toxic-free cleaning products and everything you need to build green by Eco-Smart. Visit Habitat for Humanity, and learn how to green your ride with Sheriff Synthetics. Get a rain barrel and reduce your water and sewer bill. A Native Plant Giveaway will be sponsored by Crane Point and a Master Gardener will be available to answer your plant questions. Experience a touch tank with local marine life and see a lionfish up close. Reduced price on Crane Point Trolley Tours and access to walking trails. Lower Keys - Green Homes Expo, Noon-5 pm Sunday, Nov. 7, Sugarloaf School, MM 19
Sugarloaf School is the site of the Green Homes Expo, where you can learn about green interiors from Ambience Design Studio, attend a rain barrel workshop or buy one assembled from Footprints, the local green living store. Learn about Green Island Cleaning services, attend a workshop on recycling for Monroe County, and buy items made from recycled materials from local "I Want That!" entrepreneurs. Sunworks-Miami will feature all solar needs for the home and a professional green home consultation will be raffled. A special exhibit by the Key West High School Alternative Energy Center will be presented by students who participate in the biodiesel program. Key West - Green Life Expo - 2-6 pm Saturday, Nov. 6, Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden, MM 4.5, College Rd., $5 Admission
Come to the Green Life Expo, where you can attend free healthy living workshops and learn how to green every aspect of your life. Workshops from Detox & Healthy Weight Loss to Green Gardening and Bike Maintenance are planned (schedule below). Exhibits with green cleaning products, organic baby clothing, and green lodging information will be among the many. Free composters are available to Key West residents (local ID required), who take a 15-minute "How to Compost" workshop, courtesy of the City of Key West. Relax with a mini-massage or try reflexology as an alternative to what ails you. Visit exhibits on energy conservation, solar and other energy alternatives. Chill to the music of Toko & Din Allen, enjoy local organic food, beer and wine, and see the Recycled Runway Fashion Show. Old Town Trolley will provide a free shuttle service and the Lower Keys public bus service is also free for the day. Admission to the Expo is $5.
