City of Key West
The new fiscal year saw the introduction of a Green Program with a clear vision for management on how to
effectively use of our natural spaces, achieve and maintain clarity and quality of surrounding waters, and to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The attached City of Key West Green Program condenses prior policies
endorsed by the City Commission and is based on state directives and regulations and community and staff
supported programs. We wish to offer all staff, businesses and citizens the practical guidance and background
history to assist them in helping the city reach clear achievable and measurable goals..
City of Layton
Planned as a small community in the '50's with all homes on a canal and all
but surounded by a 1000 acre state park the city of layton has, as noted above,
always been concerned with green living. The city is centered 15 miles
between Islamorada and Marathon and therfore rather self reliant and
conservation minded. The water quality and substainability of our canals
and the habitat supported by native vegation has been one of the primary
concerns of our citizens. We sincerely appreciate the attention and Keys wide
support GLEE has developed by working with the citizens, businesses and policy
makers from Key Largo to Key West and we salute your efforts.
City of Marathon
Given the location where we live the City of Marathon is conscious of the environmental challenges that
surround us. Keeping our waters clean, conserving energy, reducing land fills by recycling, reuse of fresh water
benefits not only Marathon but the Keys in general now and for generations to come.
Monroe County
Monroe County is aware of the urgent need to reduce energy consumption and our contribution to greenhouse
gases. The County is researching and developing ways to save energy within its own government, as well as
developing potential incentives and regulations to make future building and development in the Keys more
energy efficient. The Board of County Commissioners is committed to Green efforts and coordinating and
collaborating with other local governments, utility boards, and non-profit groups.
