Key West R4 Fair Activities

Key West High School is the location for the 3rd Annual Key West R4 Fair, to be held from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. The R4 Fair offers fun, food, live music by Mary Spear, green product exhibits and educational games in the Key West High School courtyard and cafeteria.

Participants can play Green Bingo and win prizes, including an Earth Machine composter. Bingo stations include education on composting, water and energy conservation, electronic recycling resources, green parenting, community gardens, Freecycle networking, green resources at Monroe County library, and much more. A limited number of recycling bins are available to those who fill five or more Bingo squares. The Recycling Challenge Game will test your recycling knowledge and help you become more informed, while Greg Sullivan from Waste Management will host an “Ask The Expert” booth to answer questions on recycling in Key West. Other exhibitors will offer green and energy saving products and services.

A silent auction features kitchen compost containers and composters, custom rain barrels painted by Rick Worth, and other earth friendly items. Healthy food will be served by Franco’s Hero & Deli. Bring a favorite t-shirt to be made into a reusable bag or pillow cover. The Key West High School Alternative Energy Center will offer a demonstration on biodiesel and invites participants to bring their used, liquid-only cooking oil in a plastic container to be converted to fuel. Toner and ink cartridges of any style and brand will be collected for recycling. Kids of all ages can make homemade seedling planters and start their own bean plants.

There will not be a collection of electronic recycling this year. For more information call Jody Smith Williams at 304-2064 or kwjody@yahoo.com.
