About KSAP
Goal: 80% Reduction of Emissions by 2050
Mission: To involve all major policy makers in the Keys in systematic reductions of their Carbon Footprints.
Involving all 6 local governments, 5 utilities, partner agencies, organizations and businesses, mentor governments from the mainland, and other national resources, the Keyswide Sustain-Ability Project (KSAP) meets quarterly, researching and convening experts on energy efficiency, water conservation,
recycling, green building, alternative fuels, green transportation, waste reduction, and more.
By learning together, we gain economy of scale, cross pollination of ideas and collaboration on new projects and funding opportunities.
First Steps:
The first KSAP meeting, dedicated to identifying actions that are environmentally
and fiscally responsible, occurred on May 24th, 2007. Fifty-seven attendees representing 5 of our 6 municipalities, 3 utilities, school board, waste water treatment plant, businesses and citizenry pledged continuing support.
All municipalities and participants were signed on to the tenets of the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement , and were asked to utilize ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability to establish their baseline of greenhouse gas emissions.
80% by 2050:
All participants, including utilities, school boards and non-profits were challenged to undertake step-by-step initiatives to reduce their baseline emissions by 80% by 2050 (roughly 2% a year), as recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and other Climate Change professionals. Accomplishments will be reported quarterly by partner and annually as Keyswide evidence of what progressive public-private partnerships can achieve.
GLEE’s Support:
- GLEE convenes the quarterly KSAP meetings, obtains and organizes expert speakers from across the nation and provides meeting summaries and presentations.
- GLEE assists each local government in creating its own Green Team to provide support and progress between and during the quarterly KSAP meetings.
- GLEE provides updates on local progress and projects to all.
