Deer Run Bed and Breakfast Big Pine Key Deer Run Bed & Breakfast continues to be a leader in the field of sustainable travel & lifestyle. Our inn is almost entirely organic, & totally vegan. As we have now received several domestic & international travel awards, we are able to use our influence to bring attention to critical environmental and social issues with more people listening. Over the last year we have done exhaustive investigation into green washing, actually exposing products to their own distributors as fraudulent. We work ceaselessly to educate ourselves, improve our business, reduce our own footprint & broaden our influence. As leaders in the field of sustainable tourism, we have an obligation to hold ourselves and others accountable, and will continue to do so. Our focus on compassionate living remains constant. Eden House Key West We, at the Eden House, believe that doing our part in the "Green" movement is honestly the least we could do. Being a part of the tourism industry in Key West, we know that as soon as our precious reef system, clear clean waters, and fresh tropical air have vanished, that we, as a business, will not be far behind. It's not just about the business though; it makes us feel as though we are doing our part in representing the responsible citizens of humanity that we are always striving to be. We also like that the business we are in offers us the chance to see many different people come and go. By telling each of our guests about our achievements and procedures involving our Green efforts, we hope that this way of thinking may pass on into others.

Harry S Truman Little White House Key West Years prior to the environmental concerns of the 1960s and long before today's quest for sustainability, Harry S. Truman's time in office decisively changed the way government interacts with the natural world. Truman enacted plans to harness nature for human betterment, national power and economic security. His approval of billions of dollars in spending on dams not only altered the flow of rivers, but shifted the balance between wilderness and human development. In 1947, he saved vast amounts of natural wilderness in the creation of the Everglades National Park. Since we are located in the sensitive Florida Keys ecosystem we feel it our duty to ourselves and our families , but to our visitors to educate and inform them of this incredible legacy. One man's actions can impart the world.
Help Yourself Key West We believe our lifestyle choices are as important as our food choices. We know that if we each, as individuals or businesses, take responsibility for being environmentally aware in our own lives and communities, collectively we can make a difference on a much larger scale. We are making the green and ethical agenda central to our business, and as our business grows, the steps we take to learn more, implement more, and educate more around green practices will continue.

We also believe, that if we can help one person see how easy it is to make a difference, they will carry that effort forward. We want to educate every guest we encounter as to the delicate nature of our environment, and the one in which they live, but not in a forceful manner. We want to believe in the inherent good in all men, and trust them to follow our example. We want to make it easy for our guests to make a difference in the hopes that they will make the same effortless efforts once they return home.
mbi / k2m Architecture, Inc. Key West As an Architecture Firm, we have a great responsibility to protect our environment through sustainable design. As a local Key West company we have an even greater challenge than other areas because of our fragile eco-system and unique island character . We realize those challenges and responsibilities and meet them with a holistic building design approach that is sensitive to our environment both natural and built. We incorporate design ideas from the very beginning of the process which will shape the project and help to lessen it's impact on the environment. We have designed in this manner before the USGBC was the main governing body because it was the responsible way to design and we will continue to do so because it is our philosophy and belief that sustainable growth is the only way to ensure that our natural resources will still exist for future generations to enjoy.
Sheriff Synthetics.com (Certified Amsoil Dealer) Key Largo It's a wonderful characteristic of our synthetic oils that they outlast regular oils by as much as eight times. In fact, with proper filtrations and oil analysis, our oils have gone 100,000 miles or more without draining.

For the environment, long drain intervals mean less waste disposal, less used oil finding its way into sewers and landfills, less oil purchases and fewer plastic containers to deal with (ours do have the recycle symbol for easy waste management). And we've shown our oils reduce fuel and oil consumption, as well as emissions.
The paradox here is that in this case environmentalism and oil do mix. At Sheriff Synthetics, we hope our commitment to quality benefits you in even more important ways than just saving time and money.
Solar's Smart No Name Key We at Solar's Smart have personally lived and promoted the use of solar energy and reduced carbon footprint for over 10 years far longer then it has been popular or cost effective. Waves by the Sea Salon Islamorada My goal is to try to add something new each year through home and/or business that will reduce our environmental impact in ways that save money, improve health and quality of life. I search websites, magazines, and industry trade shows for the next year's improvements. GLEE's expos, particularly the solar home tours and homeowners, have provided invaluable information for retrofitting our home and business. As a lessee of commercial space I am limited on some improvements, but have still managed to reduce both home and business electric bills by about 50%.
WeBeFit Personal Training Key West If you want more companies to go green, stop appealing to their care and compassion. Grab them by the wallet. The average business owner isn't thinking about deforestation or dwindling energy reserves. They're worried about monthly bills and how to get more customers. For our Green Plans to succeed, we had to see tangible benefits fast. So we focused on the easy stuff first like light bulbs, insulation and cleaning products. We quickly saw monetary savings and clients enjoyed a clean environment without the smell of harsh chemicals. With those savings, we were able to move onto larger projects like a green roof and water reclamation. The savings from that we're putting aside so we can install solar. We can't afford to do everything at once, but by making small changes over time, we've been able to make a significant impact. Learn how you can do the same and calculate your savings at our free website: www.GreenKeyWest.com.
William P Horn Architect, PA Key West Within the last year I have made an effort to become more environmentally responsible by studying and passing the exam to be LEED certified and encouraged my intern architect to study and pass the LEED exam so that my architectural firm can provide my clients with expertise in environmentally sensitive design. Also my two biggest projects turned out to be very "green". One project is a By Scout Camp in West Summerland Key. I was able to convince the client to have the project to be LEED certified. I have registered the project with the USGBC, and am targeting a silver rating. My other project is a 44 unit affordable housing project in Key West called Roosevelt Sands Housing Project. All of the 44 units will be Energy Star rated and certified and have many other environmentally friendly design solutions as noted in other parts of this application.
